Genessa Zickefoose, M.S. has over a decade of experience balancing motherhood, a career as a teacher/literacy coach and her passion for all things yoga and photography related. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a B.A. in Anthropology in 1999. She has over 13 years experience as a public school educator, and earned a M.S. in Elementary Education from Central Connecticut State University in 2007. She is currently pursuing a 6th year in Teacher Leadership from Mount Holyoke College.
In 2008, she began her formal study of yoga as way to deal with the stress of being a working mom on the verge of a divorce. In 2010, Genessa faced a major battle with illness and decided that she needed to make major shifts in her life to bring harmony and balance. What better way than to head to the Berkshires to meditate, practice yoga, chant, and spend time in nature for a month-long yoga teacher training. In July 2012, she completed her 200 hour yoga teacher training at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health.
Since then she has deepened her training in tantra, yoga goddesses and the divine feminine. In 2014 she completed Sally Kempton’s Wisdom Goddess Empowerment online course. After a life changing pilgrimage to the sacred land of Avalon (modern day Glastonbury, U.K.) led by Sianna Sherman and Ashley Turner in 2015, she decided to train as an Urban Priestess in their year-long online Urban Priestess Mystery School.
Genessa’s yoga classes are peaceful, heart-centered and designed to bring you in touch with your own inner spirit, power, and grace via the hallmarks of the Kripalu lineage–pranayama and meditation in motion. You will leave class feeling centered and ready to take action in creating the life of your dreams. She also leads women’s healing circles, which offer women a supportive and sacred space to intuit, embody and speak their truth as they empower one another to heal themselves, their families and the world.
She specializes in programs designed for public school teachers seeking stress reduction techniques for themselves and their students. In addition, Genessa offers workshops and retreats to empower teachers, women and girls.
Genessa has been blessed to study with Sianna Sherman, Ashley Turner, Sally Kempton, Snatam Kaur, Devarshi Steven Hartman, Jovinna Chan, Danny Arguetty, and many other wonderful teachers.
